So today is it. Our last day in Houston before we load up and leave tomorrow. Too bad I have dishes left to pack and my living room floor to find. But I think we deserve a drink after a week of hard packing, don’t you?
Normally I am not someone who likes to get in the way of chocolate. I like for chocolate to do its own thing, to be its own sweet and rich self without being impeded by things like nuts or coffee, or sometimes even mint (although I am quickly changing my opinion about this last one). And normally I would say the same thing concerning alcohol…that it just gets between me and my chocolate. I remember once I ordered a mudslide in a restaurant and was largely disappointed because I realized that I would just rather have a pure chocolate milkshake.
And then I had this drink. And I think I like it because it does not claim to be something it is not. First and foremost, it is a martini. Secondly, it is chocolate (unlike chocolate milkshakes with alcohol added in just for the sake of alcohol). No, this is an alcoholic drink that holds chocolate, not the other way around.
But this is not to say it is lacking in chocolate…because goodness it is not. First of all, chocolate syrup swirled around the glass. I would also imaging that coating the rim of the glass in cocoa powder might be a nice addition. Second of all, creme de cacao. And third of all, the only three words you really need to prove my point: Godiva Chocolate Liqueur.
So enjoy your Friday.
