Favorite dish/meal: My favorite dish was perhaps the lamp chops we had the other night…we couldn’t even talk while we were eating them, and we sucked every bit of meat we could off of the bones.
My favorite meal experience? The rehearsal dinner for my brother-in-law and his new wife. It was so full of love and memories and stories that made us all cry. And my piece of chocolate cheesecake was not bad either.
Least successful: I know that putting a fried egg on top of something that would otherwise be considered only part of a meal is kind of the thing to do. But I made some pasta with a fried egg on top one night a couple of weeks ago, and while Gerrit really liked it, I have to say–I was not a fan.
What we ate the most of: Let’s just say that if you come to eat dinner at my house this summer, you’ll be eating buttermilk brined grilled chicken.
What we ate in other places: At the beginning of May we went down to Auburn for my brother’s graduation, and I had two of my favorite meals out I’ve had in a while. I had my first experience at the Auburn staple Amsterdam Cafe, and had a delicious halibut with a citrus burre blanc and gouda mashed potatoes. Our second night we went to Zazu’s where I chose fish again–this time salmon, with a rosemary burre blanc. And duck fat fries for an appetizer.
With all kinds of family festivities (graduations, a family wedding, father’s days, etc.) we ate a lot at both my parents’ house and my in-laws’ house during the past two months. My favorite meal at my parents’ house? Making our own pizzas on my dad’s new green egg. My favorite meal at my in-laws’ house? Flank steak sliders with a bleu cheese sauce (and discovering…maybe I don’t dislike bleu cheese as much as I always assumed).
I love what you said about you didn’t even talk while eating your lamb chops. That’s how I am with my hubby, when the meal is good – it’s usually enjoyed in silence :) I’m however a big fan of fried egg on top of everything – yum! Have a great holiday weekend!
Haha I agree Yudith! The best meals have no words…just silence and occasionally sighs of happiness. :)
Hope you have a great holiday weekend as well!
