A couple years ago, I started a monthly meals post to talk about some our favorite foods of the month/things that failed/things we ate too much of. I liked the concept, but to tell you the truth I never particularly loved how it turned out.
For some reason I found myself revisiting that concept, and I thought that if we are going to make it a true post about monthly meals, why not just make a list of everything we eat for dinner? I’ve been doing that a la Dinner A Love Story for a couple of years now, and because I have some kind of problem that results in me being fascinated by the daily details of what I am eating (and what other people are eating), I thought there might be other people out there who have similar problems.
So if you are anything like me (or my mom) and would love to delve into the details of what someone else eats from night to night, enjoy. If not, well, just know that you’re probably a little more normal than the rest of us.
Jan 1—chicken with bacon and brussels sprouts, twice baked potatoes, black eyed peas (a must for New Year’s Day)
Jan 2–pizza and cookie cake at a 3 year old’s birthday party
Jan 3—baked potato soup
Jan 4–leftover baked potato soup
Jan 5—chicken with bacon and brussels sprouts (again, because it is good and because I needed to test the recipe again)
Jan 6–dinner at a Bunco night for me (Gerrit ate with his parents)
Jan 7–dinner at my parents’–apple cider pork loin, roasted broccoli, polenta medallions with honey goat cheese
Jan 8—milk braised pork loin (which I burnt–FAIL), roasted broccoli (we can never get enough), polenta (trying to replicate what my mom had done)
Jan 9—baked chicken thighs, mac and cheese, sweet potato fries
Jan 10–game night at a friends’ house–tacos (and I brought chocolate croissant bread pudding for dessert)
Jan 11–fried rice
Jan 12—mushroom marsala pasta
Jan 13—baked chicken thighs, green beans, couscous
Jan 14–dinner at my parents’–slow cooker korean short ribs (from Dinner the Playbook and quite delicios), fried rice
Jan 15–pan fried pork chops with a wine sauce (this sounds fancy but it is SO EASY), mac and cheese (trying to nail the perfect recipe), roasted cauliflower
Jan 16–date night out (we went to a little Italian style place where I had mushroom ravioli and Gerrit had a fantastic sandwich)
Jan 17–flank steak fajitas
Jan 19–homemade pizza
Jan 20–dinner at Gerrit’s parents’–soup
Jan 21–dinner at my parents’–panko crusted salmon, brussels sprouts
Jan 22—milk braised pork loin, roasted broccoli, couscous
Jan 23–baked potatoes with leftover pork
Jan 24–dinner at friends’ house–burgers and sweet potato fries
Jan 25—parmesan crusted tilapia, green beans with almonds, couscous
Jan 26—roasted red pepper pasta
Jan 27–homemade pizza
Jan 28–dinner at my parents’–rotisserie chicken, roasted parsnips and carrots, baguette with olive oil and herbs for dipping
Jan 29—breaded vinegary pork chops, roasted potatoes and parsnips and carrots (yet again wanting to copy my mom)
Jan 30–Chick-fil-a (because it had been a long day and we decided to treat ourselves)
Jan 31–dinner at my parents’ (because my brother was in town)–chicken poppy seed casserole wth rice and roasted vegetables and gooey chocolate pudding cake for dessert
So there you have it. Conclusions from this month–we eat at my parents’ house a lot, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We also eat a lot more couscous than I realized.
